Short Story Proposal Instructions

Write a proposal for the short story you plan to write. The proposal should have the following elements:

1.      A description of the plot following the Freytag model.

2.     Character sketches for at least two major characters. Describe the characters in detail (you can use the STEAL model or just describe their looks, thoughts, behavior, social status, etc…). You should also briefly discuss how the characters are going to propel the plot. In other words, are they protagonists or antagonists, will they play a role in the conflict or resolution, etc…?

3.     A detailed description of the setting and a discussion of why the setting is appropriate for the story, i.e., how will the setting contribute to the mood of the story?

4.     A brief discussion of the genre the story falls under. This could mean you are connecting the story to one of the 20 master plots we looked at, but it could also mean you are calling the story a mystery, a noir thriller, a work of science fiction, a fable or allegory, a satire, etc…

5.      Post ONLY the plot summary on the blog, but write it in such a way that it is comprehensible to an outside reader. Comment on at least two of your classmates’ posts. Label your post with your name and "short story proposal."
